What We Collect
rigunlaws.com collects minimal data. We do not require account creation to access any public content on this site. The only personal information we collect is what you voluntarily provide.
Newsletter subscribers: If you subscribe to our law update newsletter, we collect your email address. This email is stored in our database and used only to send you notifications when Rhode Island firearms laws change. We do not sell, share, or provide your email address to any third party.
FFL dealer accounts: Licensed dealers who register for authenticated access provide an email address and password. Passwords are stored using one-way cryptographic hashing and cannot be retrieved in plain text.
Analytics
We use analytics to understand how visitors use this site so we can improve the content and structure. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify individual users. We track page views, navigation patterns, and general geographic region. We do not track individual browsing behavior across other websites.
Cookies
This site uses functional cookies required for the site to operate correctly. These include session cookies for authenticated users and a theme preference cookie that remembers your light or dark mode selection. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party cookies for behavioral profiling.
Data Storage and Security
This site is hosted on infrastructure operated by a provider subject to European Union data protection regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This means the hosting provider is held to strict regulatory standards for infrastructure security, data integrity, and access controls as a matter of law, not voluntary policy. The server itself is located in the United States.
The site is served over HTTPS with TLS encryption. Database access is restricted to the application server. Backups are encrypted.
We apply security headers including Content-Type-Options, Frame-Options, Referrer-Policy, and Permissions-Policy. Session cookies are marked as secure and HTTP-only in production.
Newsletter: Subscribe and Unsubscribe
Newsletter subscription uses a double opt-in process. After entering your email address, you will receive a confirmation email. Your subscription is not active until you click the confirmation link. Every newsletter email contains an unsubscribe link. Clicking it immediately removes you from future mailings.
If you unsubscribe, your email address is retained with an unsubscribed flag to prevent accidental re-enrollment. You may request complete deletion of your email address by contacting info@rigunlaws.com.
Third-Party Services
This site links to external sources including government websites, federal court systems, and other official sources. When you follow an external link, you are subject to that site's privacy policy. We do not control external sites and are not responsible for their data practices.
We do not embed third-party advertising, social media tracking pixels, or external analytics services that create cross-site profiles.
Data Retention
Newsletter subscriber emails are retained for the duration of the subscription. Unsubscribed emails are retained with the unsubscribed flag to prevent duplicate enrollment. Authenticated user accounts are retained until the user requests deletion. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form only.
Your Rights
You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion of your data by contacting info@rigunlaws.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Children
This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our newsletter signup, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as our practices or legal requirements change. Changes take effect when posted. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
